He would pick Mike Austin up and spike him.

Sorry Charlie, Tiger is better than Hogan. And Jamie and this new bunch of long-drivers would blow it by MA.

I like MA's swing, I am not selling MA's swing though.

:)

He would pick up Eldrick and spike him....Man why is he playing Golf. Learn to move your feet and go block in the NFL. That is crazy big.

I just got this on Wikipedia. Long drive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The world record in a long drive competition is 539 yards (493 m) by Scott Smith, although the record recognized by Guinness Records as longest drive in a competition is 515 yards by 64 year old Mike Austin in 1974 of the US National Seniors Open with a 43.5" steel shafted persimmon wood driver and balata ball. The record distance achieved in The RE/MAX European Long Drive Championship is 474 yards (433m) by Englishman Joe Miller in September 2005.

551 yards. Mike Dobbyn - World Long Drive Record Holder

I guess I am ignorant about Mike Austin, what is so different about his pattern that it supposedly gives all this distance? I have done some searching in the past and all I could find was the flammer.

Brian,
Mike Austin is dead! He's not one of your competitors. Dang doesn't want students, and DS doesn't target your same demographic.

In essence, STOP HATING on Austin!!!!!!!

He was bombing it 300+ with a persimmon driver, and spinny balata balls.

He doesn't hate Austin. He just knows Jamie can consistently hit the ball further than Mike.

Wasn't Austin's drive aided by a 35mph tailwind and the last 70 yds was over the green downhill and the hole was a dogleg. Not hating, just debating.

Persimmon and "Spinny" Balata Balls...

The City Park West Course is just weeds now, and Mr. Austin is in the great golf course in the sky.

But, Larry Griffin, no long-drive champ, drove it on the 9th green on that West course, all 444 yards of it, with Persimmon and "Spinny" Balata Balls.

I hit it inside the 150 marker on #18 on the same course, parallel fairway to #9, when I was 16 years old. Par 5, at least 500 from the tips.

Listen, Michael Jordan could really jump, and so could Dr. J, but a midget just won a slam-dunk contest, and that dude Usain Bolt broke every record in the books.

Our friend John, Guitar Hero, is very biased with respect to MA. Lets leave it at that.

Anybody wanna give the specifics on his pattern?

Another question, how come none of these long drive guys can't play golf? If this Mike Austin could drive it 500 yds I would think he could of drove every par 4 and putting would only have to be lousy to mediocre.

I did an analysis of his swing a couple of years ago here on the forum.

What about an analysis on the new guys?
