Glad to see this post is moving in the direction of Ms. Thompson's golf swing, I think there is much to be learned from her move. I see a lot of late "jump" as she approaches impact, seems to validate a lot of what is being discussed in the release thread

Lexi has been known to start swinging as hard as she could at a very young age to compete length wise with her older brothers. With time and whatever guidance she has received, she has found something that has worked, at least so far. (I have also seen many more kids who subscribe to the school of length first and accuracy later who fail miserably on the course and scorecard)

IMO, it takes extreme athletic talent to execute her type of swing, a swing that is very difficult to copy for regular folks. She literally swings so hard and hops out of her shoes.

this video has her swinging at age 9. Alexis Thompson 2010 ShopRite.mpg - YouTube

My guess is that these players never really get to the "we'll learn to straighten it out later" part of that method, and get stuck on hitting it as far as they can. Easy to do, I bet...

Sure thing. I played with a guy in high school, he was the longest player I've seen who wasn't on the other side of the ropes from me. He was never able to get to that point where he could feel comfortable doing anything other than ripping it. He wasn't some huge guy either, probably 6'1" 170 or so but had huge wrists and hands and wide shoulders and was a really good all around athlete.
