Michael Phelps - Tumble

Alright, I just saw the Haney Project and Michael Phelps's swing is just begging for a modification of his tumble isn't it???

From down the line, I think his swing looks pretty darn good. Except......he fails to flatten the shaft aggressively enough during transition. That might be the main problem that is resulting in such a steep downswing plane.

Do y'all agree with me that Phelps's funny-looking transition is very reminiscent of this guy's:

It'll be interesting to see how Haney fixes Phelp's steep downswing. With Ray Romano he had him do a loop out to in which didn't seem to help him. Phelps is super flexible and seeing if Haney can tighten up his swing will also be interesting.

I'm skeptical that it's necessary for Phelps to shorten his swing. Don't need to shorten it to get him to tumble it better, for example........

Mickelson has a "funny-looking" transition?

I agree Phelps needs to work on laying the club down in transition and a better handpath into and through impact. He tugs the hands out and leads with the hosel.

Without laying the shaft down in or before the transition, there is nothing good for him with more tumble.

Somebody from TGC is lurking around here because I monitor both TGC and this site simultaneously and commonly used terms here keep popping up over there a couple-few months later...

Phelps's swing DTL and front on...30s mark.Good athletic motion as you would expect from a world class athlete but too much popout and forearm rotation on the takeaway. He should be reserving that forearm rotation for nearer the top of the swing and transition.

No doubt about it, there are lurkers from everywhere on this forum. I mean they're not stoopid are they? This is the best place in the world to improve your golf knowledge. HH is way out of date like all of the gurus - where else are they going to learn something?

I DVR'd the last episode, then tried to watch it. I had trouble finding any instruction going on. Commercials and the endless idol worshippy clips about Phelps consumed pretty much the whole episode.

For those teachers that have seen Phelp's swing what does he do right and what would you concentrate on changing? Then going forward in future episodes it'll be interesting (to see) if Haney sees the same things.

My prediction: HH will have him hitting balls in his grips before the season ends. He'll realize that Phelps has never been athletic while wearing clothes. #desperate
