Michael Phelps - Tumble

I've seen Hank fix a lot of golf swings, and I think Phelps was a great swimmer. This show doesn't repulse me any more than anything else on commercial TV.

I think the show has shown that Phelps has a tendency to come over the top and hit the ball in the heel. So Haney's working very hard on shallowing out the swing plane. I imagine that's the right way to go.

Too steep or over the top is often indicated by hitting it off the toe and heel hits or shanks are often caused from coming in to shallow. So, still not sure what they're working on except to speed up the swing and square that clubface.

After this post no one should wonder why we've questioned your real identity

Michael Phelps's swing plane is definitely over the top. No question about it.

Just curious, what analyst do you enjoy on TGC? I think at least BC offers some semblance of an idependant thought unlike
the Pom Pom Brothers (Tripp and Chuck).

When Frank Nobilo talks about the golf swing, I think he gets things wrong less frequently than Brandel. And as an added bonus, he's way less arrogant.

On last nights episode Haney said Phelps has a tendency to get too much inside out and that causes his heel hits and shanks. That's why he has him do the two tee drill. Is there such a thing as inside out / over the top?

Uh oh, that sounds like a setup for Dariusz.

Yup, I've got that move mastered... unfortunately.

The other way around: Over the top then back up the shaft into impact.

Lotta guys come out then back up. At all levels. Hacks keep going out. Guys who play a little back up from out there.

Could someone explain back up? If you start your swing out over the top (outside in), how do you get too inside out from that position?

Your hands go over the top but you dump the club back to the inside

At the point of impact in this position would that make the shaft more vertical (high hands) or more shallow (lower hands)? I would assume the latter, but still find this a very contorted move, at least visually.

I think we've been down this road before and obviously I just don't see it. The concensus is you're either over the top too steep or under the plane too shallow. Obviously there's a combination of the two that is possible that I just don't seem to be able to visualize.
