Yes, if you were to hold off too long and not fully release the club before impact you would be losing power. Also, in the real world it may be impossible to create an "all things equal" scenario. So someone could end up hitting it longer by releasing the club a touch early, losing a small amount of speed, if it improved their overall impact conditions giving them better launch, spin, etc. IMO.

I know it maybe late but I just heard your interview on "THE DEWSWEEPERS" on the PGA TOUR Satelite radio, Another great job as always! (Swing left ...club head path to get the resultant path .... control the AOA, control the club face...Center face impact point ) Always great to hear!!! Straight balls !!!
