Rickie or Dustin?

Well, imagine if Darren fell down the leaderboard and Rickie and Dustin pulled away from the field. Which one of the two would you be inclined to favor?

P.S.: Why do you hate America? :)

I imagine he is pulling for Darren Clarke because of his personal issues the past few years. He was a top ten player then his wife got cancer and passed away, and he lost his game for quite a while. Compelling story if he won and I would be very happy for him.

As far as Rickie vs. Dustin, I'm not really sure. I'm really hoping that an American wins so we can stop hearing all of this "what's wrong with American golf" stuff. It's all cyclical, many people forget that after 1999 at Carnoustie no Europeans won a major until Padraig Harrington won his first Open in 2007.

Amen. I guess the writers have to write about something.

Just to be clear, I'm joking about "hate America." Note the smiley-face up there.

I'm for Rickie over Dustin for a number of reasons:

1) If the media got excited about a Rory-Rickie rivalry, that'd be great for golf (even though Rory would end up dominating Rickie).

2) Overall, I expect Dustin to win a lot more majors than Rickie. So a Rickie win would be more special.

3) Dustin's a physical freak, which seems like an almost-unfair advantage.

4) There's an excellent chance Dustin will run away with this thing, which would make it a snooze-fest.

Between the two, don't care. Probably pull for the redneck. Just read the rules sheet this time.

PS, I know why you are for Fowler.

DC!

I would love to see DC win. DC would not be the story Watson would have been in 2009, but what a great story this would be. I would not mind seeing Ricky get it done either. Rory's US Open win put some pressure on Ricky to step it up and it look like Ricky is responding.

DC for the win. He's been through a lot, with a lot of dignity. He's a tremendous ball striker. And he's part of my favourite image from the Ryder Cup - him and DLIII sitting together on the grass, cigars aglow, watching the final games come in.

That was a proper round of Open golf from Ricky yesterday though.

The idea that there will be some sort of Rory - Rickie rivalry is far fetched. I can't even remember many golf rivalries. There are too many good players. Tiger has never had a rival. To me a rivalry would be defined as two multiple major winner, hall of fame players battling down the stretch on several occaisions, with pretty equal results.

Redneck will win, just to remind us that the world ain't no fairytale.

Ricky is just too dreamy to win:) and big D has never won a major and never will becuase he's just too regular a guy. Likes his beer and likes to enjoy life. Not intense enough. JMO.

Lifter, why is there an "excellent" chance of Johnson running away from the field with no track record of doing so?

I just think he has a unique ability to overpower a golf course. The large lead he built at Pebble (prior to Sunday) was very impressive. You're right, though, that this is mostly pure speculation built on almost nothing.

I can definitely appreciate all the warm feelings for Darren. It's just that I didn't follow golf as closely when he was going through his most challenging years. So I'm not quite as partial for him.

Rickie's jacket is white? What a letdown!

I'd love to see A.K. make a run too. Now that's a guy who can really go low (at least in the U.S.).

IIRC, Phil is 1 up or even when going head-to-head with Tiger. Two hall of gamers, two multiple major winners, opposing personas, and basically dead even when they've been paired together... smells like a rivalry to me, no?
