So I guess I'll ask for help (with video)...

Brad,

I think Brian's commentary is related to making adjustments to your aim and attack angle-- perhaps even just for certain clubs.

I'd imagine he wants you to hit up a Trackman and check out your numbers to see how they look.

In other words, you have dominated the 2D world and now you need to delve a little deeper--much like Kevin did per his post about his visit to New Orleans.

Go Cards!

Smither,

Got it. I'll have to schedule some Trackman time then. It looks a lot better than it did last time I saw you though, no?

Go Duke!

Why the lack of a response?

Is it just me, or is there reluctance to give holeout a vector? This guy really wants to know!

I'm interested because this is my miss too. Greg Norman could have also used a little bit of the Manzella magic back in the day. (Remember the push cuts for all the marbles?) If the answer is a trackman session then so be it.

Wouldn't the data only confirm the D-plane issues associated with the miss? What can he do in the meantime? On an alignment change, what would be the suggestion? I'm presuming most better players have had to deal with this at some point. Thanks.

Brad -- It does look good. It'd be very interesting to see your numbers. This pivot looks much more in-sync than before.

Burners -- If Brad wanted someone to draw some lines on a screen and make up some bullshit he'd be asking for answers elsewhere. I'm sure Brian could give you a list of 50 reasons you might be pushing the ball; but why guess when you can get good hard data?

Huh?

I'm still curious as to what exactly Brian's fix is for me.

Ryan, I've edited my post to be a little more clear about my question, but not sure why you gave me the grief--this is supposed to be fun, right.

I'm trying real hard not to quote Bronco Billy.:)

I appreciate the help, burners, but I think what Ryan is saying is that Brian would more than likely need to work with me one-on-one to really get the fix right. He can probably see what needs to happen, but to describe it and try to teach it over the internet may be an extensive process. He could have to explain the same thing 10 different ways before I really take hold of what he's trying to say; that's why live lessons exist :) .

The confirmation of my swing not having any glaring errors is enough for me. I can work with what I have, which is way more than one could hope for in most cases. I'll report back after the rain stops and I can go practice again :) .

Thanks for the response, and good luck with the swing.

I look forward to hearing about your progress--and learning something too! Cheers.

Any progress to report?

Don't know if you guys are GTEing, but this was a good thread that was never resolved.

Any Trackman nums or insights to share after seven months?

Were you hitting it in the heel?

Thanks for the interest, didn't know if you guys cared or not :). I've had a lot of progress since my last post, but it's been a little different than one would expect.

I never got on Trackman. The one I know of in Charlotte is indoors and while the simulator is great I need to see the target, the ballflight, and THEN the numbers to make any sense of it.

So after a couple months of tinkering and having sporadic results, I read an article in Golf Digest about Bubba Watson: Little Bubba, Big Bubba: Golf Digest Magazine. I have ADD like Bubba (probably) does, and the part of the article about how he swings and only thinks about ballflight and not about his swing spoke to me.

So the day after reading this, I went to the range and hit balls working on something or another (can't remember really). After a bucket, I decided to have some fun and try and hit different shots thinking only of the ballflight I wanted to hit. I didn't think of my swing or the D-Plane or any of that; I just tried to feel how the ball was coming off the clubface.

I hit it great. I took it out to the course a day or two later and shot 67 I think. Never looked back from there.

Now, I do have a few swing feels that I have to keep an eye on, as I'm sure Bubba probably does too. I'm mainly just playing a stock fade, but can move it some if I want to. But I try to hit this same ballflight most of the time; I'm not like Bubba and trying to hit dramatic hooks and fades. I like hitting fairways and greens taking what the course gives me and my fade.

The change in scores and stats has been dramatic, to say the least. I've had some great finishes in tournaments and have made ball striking a strength rather than a weakness.

Any other questions you guys have or if you want me to elaborate more don't hesitate to ask :D.

I'm late to this party, but heck of a nice swing is what I would say.

And get 2 hours with Brian on a Trackman. What's your handicap?

I play professionally, so I don't really keep a handicap. As of right now I'd guess somewhere in the +4 or 5 range. But I really don't know.

I suppose I might try and get some time this winter with Brian. But right now finances are tight and I'll be seeking sponsorship for next year pretty aggressively. Spending the $500+ that it would take to travel and see BManz would be hard to justify.

Couple questions

Cool how it's working out for you.

Do you still worry about the "fore right" tee ball? (It's interesting how these can be a problem periodically even when you are swinging well.)

Sounds like it's been mostly a "mind set" change. Maybe it's freed you up to "just hit the dang thing"?

Thx.

The "fore right" ball is pretty much gone. It's not a dead block anymore, at least. Usually a ball to the right is due to an over-cut.

Part mind-set change, but also I'm aiming a bit more left and I'm focusing on only a few things with my swing when I practice. I'm just trusting myself more now. I still need some work with my swing though, as ball striking is still not AS consistent as I need it to be.

You are at +4/5 handicap? Holy.

You say Sd was a big help...and this new thought process of yours...

How much did they affect your scores?

You just see it and hit it now?

Thanks Holeout

I played with you in a Tarheel event last summer and you told me about Brian Mazella after the round. I've been in the golf business a long time now and your tip to look up Brian is the single best piece of advice I have received in a long time. I got a lesson in with Brian this past September and just got back from the GTE and I have been striking the ball WAY better than ever!!
Best of luck to you Brad and make the time and find the money to see Brian and any of his guys!! And as a bonus get a Trackman session along with a lesson from Brian, it WILL pay off for you. Thank you again!!

Matt

I'm jumping on the "nice swing" bandwagon. And at +4/5, it sounds like it's more than just pretty :)

About your preferred ballflight. Do you actively try to hit a fade, or is that the shot that comes out when you just step up and swing?
