The Passive Pivot of the Lower Body

I take in beans from the outside in and I pass gas from the inside out.:D
The Hammer,

This sounds like a very uncontrolled explosive pivot. :D

Fun aside, I think there is a lot of merit to you ideas.

For high handicap golfers precision of impact is paramount.

As usual it is all a matter of perspective,

An optimum golf swing should involve ALL body parts.

Than each part can operate at lowest level of effort.

I don’t know how much Aussie Rules football you have seen but there are a lot of hands, arms and upper body going on. I don’t think you got the whole story on this guy. Rowing is linear. I have a good friend who is a top rower. I call him linear man. Linear movement is the power in the lower body not rotational which is used in golf. Now paddling like in the 4 man kayak is closer to golf and it is hands, arms and upper body.

you misunderstand. my point is that the lower body/pivot is a major source of power.

i know rowing is linear. im not stupid. the point is it is a demonstration of how much stronger the lower body is then the arms.

the point i made that he play aussie rules and rugby was merely to show how he was very physically strong, in arms, upper and lower body.

No wrist action? I just lol'd.

Honestly dude, I just think you're being naive to think that the pivot doesn't supply a massively large amount of power and speed to the golf swing. If you want to disagree, fine. I simply think you're looking at it the wrong way; just because the hand and arm are moving the fastest, doesn't mean they are providing that speed all on their own.

Let's just not let this get unruly. I like most of what you have to say, but on this one I think you're a bit off :).

I'm fed up of this argument...I will start a separate thread to solve this...:)

The forum went to war over this topic last year! You do not need to over pivot to snap your kinetic chain. In that silly thread last year, I mentioned Jack K, and Brian said that he has one of the best pivot types for K-snapping. Figure out why! Not intellectually, instead get away from the computer and beat some balls.

Sit and throw!

Don’t be shy to give your opinion

Lindsey Gahm has been taught to accel-decel from the time she was quite young, and she drives it very far and very straight.
Brian,

In golf as in any other activity it is important to use terms meaning the same for all. It would therefore very beneficial to have your explanation/definition of what constitutes active braking by a golfer in the down swing.

Jack K has spent many years hitting balls on a chair. This was part of my certification for Natural Golf back in 1993. I had to be able to do this well and demonstrate it during lessons.

It is obvious you have never heard a big V-twin motor with straight pipes and a belt drive. You probably prefer mopeds or scooters. Quiet and slow. That seems to be the thing for you Tea Bags. On the other hand us Yanks go for the real power and stretched out choppers. It is all American just like apple pie.

:D

Well, you've revealed a lot about your own persona there. But, why the need to mention your archetypal American Macho psyche? We are all aware of that via Hollywood, who also gave us insights into the alternative use that you guys have for Apple Pie.  ;)

We call spanners wrenches as well.

How quaint. :D

I had the pleasure of living in your great country for 4 years. My post was not intended to sound like a typical yank as you might think. I was just messing with your English language and life style a bit. I do know you language as well as the American language. I thought the Brits were the kings of comedy and you might have a laugh? I guess not. Sorry.

Who gives a rats arse?

I don't care about motorbikes, or linguistics, I care about helping golfers.

And I can do it better than ANYONE.

(I could even when I was teaching stuff that wasn't right).

I don't say this to brag, I say it to make a very important point.

I compare myself to PERFECT, and I am far from perfect.

I have taught no pivot (horrible), totally flat feet (restrictive), no pivot snap (good players snap anyway) and everything else worth teaching.

The PIVOT is a huge deal.

And learning to accel-decel is very important thing.

Brian,

Somehow you have to put the concept into words to communicate.
So what do you tell a student interested learning useful deceleration? ;)

umm..... duh... thats Harvey Birdman.... attorney at law....;):p
You mentioned aqua man, and i was like... do i talk about Woody Austin that much?

I was just surprised, you posted that link, you made it look like you were plugging it being for sale. That was the point. The avatar is supposed to reflect your personality, so if you watched Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law... You would get me.

Hammer, I would actually love you to look at my swing. Im no professional, you are. Im not afraid of what Ill hear, thats why I posted it. Im not horrible either, Im a single digit capper. just looking for advice on whoever wants to give it to me.

I have no problem looking at you swing on video but this is Brian’s site and when it comes to that I think he should be the expert to give you his advice. There is a lot of good stuff going on in you swing.

Thank you hammer. I appreciate it.
I'm sorry if I sound like I am always being a stick in your rear end. Really, I just get frustrated when everyones personalities get together on a thread, different ideas come up, and the end result can be people getting fed up and getting waaaay off topic, just because they can.
So, I'm sorry again. I think that it is cool that you are respecting Brian's forum by not posting your ideas on a specific swing (mine) but just your ideas of the over all swing. Even if Brian and the masses don't necessarily agree with you, you are a professional, so you must be doing something right.;)

No apology necessary H.

It seems like comedy does not travel too well as I was also speaking in jest.

No harm done and no one got hurt. Just as it should be.
