Semantics. Nobody disagrees.

GOLF BULLDOG: Like your logo/avatar. Now take that guy and remove his tilt, lung him forward with his right forearm over top his left instead of vice versa--- and whoila! you have me when I was shanking.

Not Semantics!

I gave a lesson today to a lady, who is on here third lesson and has not yet made 1000 total swings in her life.

She has hit the ball all over the hosel, but has NEVER shanked it?

Why?

(I know the answer)....

tongzilla's rough definition of a shank.

shank = a low mishit shot that goes more than 45 degrees to the right. It's not a shank if you hit the toe or sweetspot. Only happens when you hit more towards the heel (up to and including the hosel).

This particular thread needs CPR now!

Its now become a list of random questions answering questions.

We know what a shank is.

We would like to know what leads to it or at least encourages it

The list is not limitless, that I'm sure of.

So lets get them down here once and for all.

Lets get the STONE TRUTH and then we can finally move on and get on with the rest of our lives :)

Her swing path is outside and she has no hand eye ability so makes no "fit in" move to find the ball with the clubface

The Answer.

The lady has NEVER lagged the hosel.

(I taught her a flat left wrist at the top early on, and a true swinging motion)

The Point is this:

Swinging the clubhead too far from you, and toward missing the ball on the far side, does NOT cause the SHANK!!!

This lady even missed a couple of balls on the far side!!

(Come on you "on the toes" people, explain this away). ;)
