Foley Says Kostis Mangled Tiger Swing Analysis

Obviously, we know now that the body does not square the face, but Pete J is not an idiot for thinking that. If all you ever did was read Ledbetter, older McLean or watch Michael Breed on the golf channel, it could be easy to get wrapped up in that belief.

Only because we all have previously been down that road do we know different.

I have been at the PGA all week.

And me and Sean talked about this Kostis gaff. In fact I brought it up to him before the article.

He was probably mis-quoted pretty bad there.

You could make the point that LESS body rotation would influence the path out to the right.

But why is he correcting Kostis? The balls draws because the clubface is facing left (closed, "toed-in") to the path direction. As basic as it gets. If you put Foley on the hot seat, he would get smoked. His understanding of golf ballistics remains poor.

Thanks Lindsey,
There is so much conflicting info out there on the golf swing.

How can so many pro's completely disagree with each other?

Pete

Because somebody, somewhere, has seen improvement with just about every method out there. Combine those testimonials with some fancy marketing, and you have the latest and greatest swing guaranteed to add yards and drop strokes.

Besides, people are really serious about their games. If you can help a golfer get better (especially if you can do it quickly), and you have the ability to sound fairly knowledgeable about what you believe on top of that, you'll gain a following of devoted players who are willing to defend you and your system to the bitter end.

I think that the biggest problem with that is that when some instructors find something that has worked for them, and they hitch their wagon to it, then that "something" becomes the right way for everybody. The thing is, golfers are too diverse a group for many "this is absolute right way" concepts to work for everybody.

As far as pro golf, it seems it's all just trends. Leadbetter became a household name because of Faldo, Harmon because of Norman and Woods, Haney because of O'Meara and Woods, and now Foley is the "future". Sooner or later someone else will come along and the TV watchers will all coo over him as well.

I get that but it just seems there would be more commonality in the basics of what makes a good swing.

I'm not aware of another athletic motion that inspires so many different thoughts on how to execute it. I probably make it more difficult than it is.

There always has been more than one way to skin a cat. I am not scientific so for the swing i just use what i consider common sense and thats why am on this forum. A lot of other teachers/methods are not common sense imo.

I go to a teacher to improve not to be taught a method.

Neither am I. But I'm sure if you dig deep enough into other sports you'll find the same thing. Doesnt baseball have the equivalent differences of thought on hitting vs swinging, or something of that nature?

Kostis said the toe was turning over, or something that DID NOT HAPPEN!!!!

Foley is very D-Plane aware and knows about ENSO numbers like the Gamma numbers.

There is so much difference in what teachers say for the following reasons:

MARK THIS DOWN

1. Incorrect info based on seems as if.

2. Incorrect info based on non-scientifc science.

3. Incorrect info based on 2D video.

4. Many patterns have and will work.

5. Selling the Buicks on the lot.

Superb, Brian. I love it.

Oh, by the way, I've yet to meet an HONEST car salesman.;)

Alec Baldwin could have been a Head Pro, right?
