It can be explained by looking at frame 6 of down the line :)

Forget the quirkiness, he gets it right here and that's all that matters!

I agree however think it interesting that his head drops, stays down, unlike Ernie E but his left shoulder rises a lot. Enough to compensate for the head being quite low.
Guess the left shoulder becomes axis.
Also the turning in of the left foot on the backswing but about square to line at impact. Must have to lift toes off the ground to do this.
I admire his results.
I played a few times w/ a good amateur, Jim Stewart, won mid-amateur, etc., who at the top(his last move above the waist before starting down) lifted his hands several inches straight up. Said had always had the move, like Furyk and his swing.

Thanks Redgoat..... Ben F. has a great swing! looks just a 'touch' out of synch/over with the shoulders through the ball (hard to tell from the angle), but that is quite minor - great swing

AK looks a bit stiff to me.....

(great work BTW)

Tom Lehman's clubface is so shut it's amazing. No wonder he has a caddy slide. He must have to aim 20 yards to the left. Can you say "push-draw"?

Hue,

As soon as my small brain comprehends how to turn an avi into an mpeg video will be up. Thanks again for the feedback about the site.

Redgoat,

Video is nice as a supplement to the sequence of stills. I'm perfectly happy with the sequences, and if it's a choice of either, but not both, I'll take the sequence any day. You are getting exactly the correct positions in the sequences - thanks for your efforts.

Wow,
Looking at frame 6 for Khuene: from this position, to still be hitting down with his driver, his clubhead must have been in the ground at impact?

The one interesting thing I have been noticing in the swings is the difference in the hands at the top of the backswing between some players. For example, Tiger, Adam Scott, Davis all have very high hands, away from their head while the hands at the top in swings from Byrd, Durant, Sergio, Campbell are much closer to the head. WOuld TGM subscribe to one over the other and why?

Bcoak:

IMO, I do not think their hands in relation to their hand is that crucial. Certain players (Scott, Love) have a bit more upright planes which has their hands above their head, while other like Sergio, Durant, have their plane a bit flatter. The thing to note is their alignments in the swing vs positions. IMO again, so long as they maintain their geometric alignments, by TGM, they are okay.

One thing to note, in Durant's frame 5 (at or nearing release point) it appears his head begins to swivel towards the target (ala Duval). However, one could make an arguement that he is focusing on his Aiming Point!! Something to chew on!

Brady; I really like your pics. I notice you put Joe Durant in there. When you get round to posting video footage I would love to see a section devoted to tour players short game shots. Thanks.

In one of the picture of Darren Clarke, with red line drawn on the club going up and green coming down, I notice (and usually for many players), when the club goes up, the butt is not pointing at the ball target line. This pointing to the target line at all times has been mentioned in here, in Chuck's ebook etc.. Is this still correct or is an option? What happen to Clarke if going up the butt is pointing to the target line and as he coming down with the shaft flatten, will it then point outside the target line?

tgmer,

This is absolutely an option. Many, not all, have the club pointed inside the target line going up and then shallow in transition.

Pointing at the target line going up doesn't require a shallowing out in transition, Tiger would be a good example of this.
