Rick Reilly on Tiger

Tiger knows he is scrutinized, knows he is on television and he knows he is more than the golf ambassador to the world. QUOTE]

even MORE the reason he should be cleaner than the other guy, it is a respect thing with me. If he is going to be the poster child then respect the postion or the media just needs to quit showing us howhe missed the cut all weekend on TV, and let him be, of course that isnt going to happen either

Needham, maybe I am the wrong person to discuss sort sort of stuff, because golf is entertainment to me, along with all sports. Baseball is "near and dear" to me, well, it was, once that sport's legacy, history, integrity of the league imploded, it became like everything else, a source of entertainment. The exception I take is rooting for criminals, or leagues with too many of them, which is why the NFL isnt what it used to be for me.

ANYWAYS, it seems that we have two different perspectives, and I believe that Tiger isnt doing anything to hurt the entertainment value of the sport. What you are focussing on is something more than entertainment, so Ill just step back here.

no... cause the NFL let that kinda of crap go on for the money.......not too long the PGA will do the same thing.....you watch.

I get tired of hearing the "tiger demands perfection" then show us this with ACTIONS, be a perfect model. I also get tired of hearing ...."his so good and cares about the kids"...then don't let them hear the filth come out of your mouth. But I guess this is ok too since he builds a computer lab?
In fact let's just add F, GD, S, MF"ER, and cock sucker to the First Tee booklets so the kids can can get off on the right foot........in fact we will go ahead and have porn hour after lunch too.

Golf is a gentleman's game....Tiger is no gentelman while on the golf course.

+1

Just watch these videos. You say Tiger's human but it doesn't even look like he's trying to correct his swearing on television. To me it kind of shows he is a little selfish. I'm not a tiger hater but I hate it when he does these things. Why doesn't the pga grow a pair and fine him. And Tiger shouldn't be the only one getting fined. The rest of the tour should too as you can see in these vids. But Tiger knows people watch him the most and kids look up to him but he persists. OK. I'm ready to get bashed for what i believe in.

tiger woods is poster boy for the pga tour. if he is a role model for the tour, he is a poor one when he exhibits behavior as described in this thread. even earl woods did not like tiger's language. unfortunately, he did not put an end to such behavior when he could like arnold palmer's father and tom watson's father did when they were young. acting like tiger does shows a lack of respect for the game, himself, the spectators, and the youth of america who look up to him. jimmy

What's wrong with his putt on the 18th? That was the best! Do you want an excessive celebration flag thrown at him or something? Did you see how the crowd reacted?

I love the roars and player's/caddie reactions..........just keep it clean.

and dont break into a belly flop or moonwalk or something stupid

you are right about baseball, it was really sad to the national pastime decline like it has. Even more sad to watch the league let steroids rue the day, all for money. Point I think this is the point of golf as well. We have this in Bases, and FB....the more you tolerate or the league turns a blind eye to, the worse it gets and the faster it goes downhill. I want all sports to be a clean, healthy, dare I say "family style" outing.

I think you and I have the same thoughts spread out over 2 sports. But I suppose we could always agree to disagree.

and then there's this guy-->

total disgrace of everything the game stands for IMO

He said the f word in that one too. probably going to end up being one of the best golf shots of all time as well. I have a feeling Tiger will change his ways (and hopefully his swing).

doesnt bother me in the slightest how tiger acts. doesnt bother me if he swears, if he throws clubs or if he gets angry. shows he cares, which is more than some players i could name. and its a little entertainment.

as for john daly, i think its great that players dont always take themselves too seriously.

all this talk about "what this game stands for" is what keeps younger players away i think. its a game like any other FGS! how does this game have any higher morals, or standards than any other game/sport/past-time. class divides piss me off big time anyway, andwhen you get people saying how "golf is above this sort of behaviour" is frankly IMO whats holding this game back. some people think that long driving is a bastardised version of golf, yet we know some of the best swings are from the long drivers.

sorry for the rant and goin off topic

dont worry the liberals will "fix" this too, just give it time. The onl reason I say this is becuase if golf does not remember its past and history it will never have a future.

I honestly don't have a problem with it. It's not like he's tossing clubs into ponds or breaking clubs over his head. He is a perfectionist (so am I), so I can relate. He doesn't complain or make excuses, he puts 100% blame on himself. Personally, I can't stand the media and I find it amusing to have some dork behind a computer type up an article like this. Tiger has the pressure of the whole world on his shoulders, he expects greatness just like everyone else. The guy puts in 12 hours a day to win championships, if he gets on himself for playing bad, let him.

you must not have kids. Or you are one. I'm not trying to cram my idea of morals down everybodys throat but he has done more than his part in bringing the game down to the level of the NFL and NBA with his childish antics. I don't give a rats ass about him being a competetor. That's a copout and an lame, weakass excuse. I know because I've struggled with a temper all my life. So I know how hard it is to control.I know where it comes from- something deeper than just being a perfectionist. It comes from not respecting the game, it's traditions, it's history, and especially those that made it possible for him to make millions playing a game. This crap about being a competitor is typical of a society that worships todays celebrity athletes. Phil Mickleson might be a jerk behind the scenes, but he doesn't act like crybaby little bitch when he hit's a bad shot. Win like a man, lose like a man- or retire and leave the game before you sully it when you break Jack's record. He's not even in the team picture when it comes to professionalism. He's a grown ass man. Act like it. I don't care how many majors he wins. I don't care what records he breaks. Golf is a game based on professionalism, honor, sportsmanship and charactor sp? Until he stops showing his ass he will never be the greatest ever. Golf is not about statistics. It's about HOW you play the game. Jack Nicklaus will always be the man. This topic gets my blood pressure up. As hard as it has been for minority's to gain access to the game it disturbs me when one of their icons gives the bigots from the traditionally lilly white golf establishment more ammo to say say I told you so. Unbelievable..

I think you still have a problem with your temper .. lol

It just makes them smile and say I told you so.

1000% correct

and screw how hard it WAS.........cause his actions are molding the way it WILL be...........make next time he makes a putt he can drop in a bunker and do SAND ANGELS or something .............I told you so lol

The only celebration I've never liked was Rich Beem's little dance. That was a showboating.

are you serious? It was goofy but showboating? With the way Tiger has pumped his fists and such? What are 16 years old?

I guess I'm just out of touch. It's scary to read so many posts that act like it's OK to behave like a child.

Ray Lewis may be a little OTP but golf has it's own code of ethics. That's why it's the only sport that has rules that are self-enforced. Every time he shows his ass golf gets closer to the NBA or NFL and I played college football at a high level so I speak with a unique perspective.

I don't even know how to respond to some of these posts.

see..they you go. Damn skippy I still have a temper, but I don't have to worry about how it affects people on a message board. But I'm pretty sure I got my point across without dropping an F bomb. Instead of having a reasonable response you make it about me.So what is your point? Typical of this generation. There is always an excuse.
