Golf Channel, Thank you very much for the opportunity - Brian Manzella

i don't know brian personally or professionally, so i cannot comment like many of you who have been his students.

but i can say this: my kids' short game improved having watched his youtube video on using a variety of clubs to get the ball rolling asap to the hole. i think he talked about a system of 12 or something. i think it is a tape on ritchie3's youtube channel if i remember correctly.

just from watching brian in general, different clips, i got the feeling that brian is passionate, intelligent if not brilliant, has his own flair when talking in public. every time i watch his clips, i have to review it to get more out of it. as some have already said, that may be part of the problem. his presentation has too much good info, to the point that it may be confusing to the average joes. so, in a way, unfortunately, i think brian needs to dumb it down quite a bit for the mass. it is sad, but, these days, no one wants to think beyond 2 seconds. the jackass movies makes 50 mil in couple days, go figure.

brain mentioned about live auditioning, which gives me an idea. i think brian will be best suited in a show where he is pitched against couple others teachers, to see who can teach tough/impossible students faster and better. for instance, make it a total of 4 teachers and 4 students. each teacher gets paired with a student randomly to start and work for one month, then swap, then swap, so eventually, every student gets to work with all the teachers. TV crews follow them and capture the high lights, students provide feedbacks, so called expert teachers get to rate the four teachers and even allow audience rating. essentially it is like a big break thing, with weekly new episodes. this is particularly attrative if they have a teacher with s and t, a traditional guy with homer concepts, brian with his 1.68 thingy and then me, just kidding. it will be a nuclear fission in the golf field.

i think brian will thrive in that environment. i don't think losing weight has anything to do with appearing on TV. his role is a teacher, not a stud muffin or something.

this gc audition can be very complicated. i do not know enough or want to spread rumors,,,but as with everything, it can be political issues as well. brian is currently working on something else, going away or beyond the homer concept. brian is rocking the boat so to speak, as we speak. the implication is up to imagination. i don't know what brian is up to, but i know back then they could imprison you for thinking the world was not flat.

one thing is on everyone's side. it is called time. time will reveal everything. so we hope brian finds and thrive in his niche in time. hopefully sooner than later.

It seems to me that TGC is an entertainment source. They are not always interested in the most knowledgeable, just the most entertaining. I personally think Brian would be entertaining so not sure why he wasn't selected. I also think that if you look at their Big Break show, almost all the girls are attractive and they try to create drama among them. Good for ratings. I know for a fact that the reason the Golf Academy Live segment was ditched was because it had some of the lowest ratings on their schedule. Most players are just not interested in making changes in their games that take effort, easier for them to buy into a new fad that makes playing better golf easy. It also takes "connections" with TGC to make headway. I used to work for a Golf Mag Top 100 teacher who appeared a few times on TGC. I found out that every month, a "care package" was sent to Orlando from this teacher, full of golf balls, shirts, clubs, etc. to show "appreciation" for letting them on the air. This was followed by a note of thanks and a request to be remembered for upcoming shows. Sure enough, they were always kept "in the loop and had more opportunities than would have seemed normal.

The golf channel is more about entertainment than teaching golfers. They need to sell sponsors to make money. Whether Barkley suceeded or failed makes no difference - only ratings count!

Hey, BManz ... maybe you should produce your own golf show and try to sell it to TGC ... something on the style of your 'debate' ... where you go tong and hammer with somebody and let the blood flow copiously ... rating would skyrocket on TGC if they had a reality show like that ... instead of all that Big Break Sh!t and that ridiculous Trump trash ...!!!!

You could even invite selected members of your forum to debate you and attempt to contradict your teaching experience. I would love to challenge you on the scientific stuff that you are trying to understand as you emerge from the medieval TGM mindset. Mandrin too ...!!!!

Of course you would have to take out plenty of liability insurance in case you and your guests get sued ... :D

I think it's because you're waaaayyy too damn ugly. Just kidding!
My opinion is that it's like most job posts from the PGA...the job has already been filled before they even post it. You did/do a great job and only need to lose weight if you want to get healthier.
The majority of Americans are overweight and connect better with people like them.

Their ads say Beignning 11/29 there will be something like 9 days of Golf Academy stuff, some looked new (with Breed). Maybe they will indicate in that what their instructor search led to.

Just get ready for some really bad programming, sorry it is inevitable with the GC MO. Would love to say it's something I would love to watch...but I dont see GC broadcasting a Manzella or Jacobs style format... Too much good info I guess, makes people think too much!

Maybe Brian could have a hot chick to explain how the angle of attack changes the d-plane! And then another hot chick takes offense to the explanation and goes into the bitch room to tell her side of the story...I think it would work! Ratings and science!!

My ADD blocked me from finishing my thought about Brian..."you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you."
Don't change a thing. You look like a linebacker or an ultimate fighter...well, more like a linebacker, anyway.

TGC

I heard Brian's long lost brother is one of the finalists??

Thanks for all the support folks.

But, they were judging somewhat on "amount of knowledge" so I gave 'em some meat to chew on.

None of what you guys said is the reason I didn't get picked.

I wasn't what they were looking for, to start with, & I wasn't good enough to overcome that.

I am losing weight already, and have a bunch of videos to do this fall/winter which will polish me off even more.

My goal is to have a TV show, it doesn't have to be on the golf channel.

Thanks again, Golf Channel.

Next time, make it an open casting call, and get everyone to audition live.
BMan, fire up this sucker and it will all fall off....

Brian, for what its worth (probably not much), I think you gave too much info too quickly. Most GC viewers don't even have a clue about the concept of plane, nevermind the relationship face to plane. And as for magic triangle....

They thought that their viewers would'nt understand it, regardless of any other factors which may have influenced their decision.

I work with a lot of uninformed golfers, many who are intelligent and hold high positions in industry/commerce/medical, and they have a really hard time trying to understand even the most simple (to us simple) of concepts.

Simple it down to something that everyone can understand and relate to. And you were trying too hard to come across like someone you are not as well BTW.

At the end of the day, I don't think it was the "job" for you anyway. I would say you should try to find a different way into the media of TV. Look at Feherty for example: he stayed to a large extent the way he always was. Made some crazy politically incorrect comments which would have cost some people their jobs, but he came across as genuine and people accepted him. He broke the mould, but that was why he got to where he got to. I woud say you should do the same.

Hope it wasn't too presumtious of me to try to give a guy way more successful than myself advice...
