My battle with "Over the Top"

The other way to feel what Brian want you to do is to try almost counterclockwise rotation your arms during backswing so the clubface is less open.

The feeling of pointing the butt end behind you looks like it is a great way to get you less laid off at the top...Or at least it looked that way in the mirror :p

Incoming, when I suggested this last year, I received a no no from Brian.

ive realised that in my practice swing i dont actually practice getting into the slot!! therefore in my real swing i wont be able to do it if i havent practiced it. damn.....then when i try and do it i cant.

The counterclockwise rotation of the arms in the backswing--which for a right handed player involved the right arm supinating and the left arm pronating--is what Brian terms an over-rotated left arm flying wedge. That is the move that gets someone in the laid off position. Understand? Therefore, your recommendation is wrong.

counter-clockwise rotation = Roll (in TGM speak), which would tend to get the clubshaft pointing across the line with a less open clubface at the top.

It appears to me that you have this exactly backwards.

Hopefully someone from the Academy can come in and explain this difference of opinion and clarify the issue.

thefuture37, wow I hadn't been to GD's site in awhile and you are right it is much worse than it was before. Many long time favorite videos are missing, and on my computer the videos look distorted/stretched, compared to the old quicktime version they had. As to frame by frame, I was able to make the videos go frame by frame by letting it play and then dragging the play-position arrow left and right.

Brian simply wants less rotation clockwise of the left forearm in the backswing. Counter clockwise rotation of the said forearm doesn't get someone laid off as you state, it gets them steeper. While Brian hasn't actually nominated counter clockwise rotation, he has looked for less clockwise.
