I wonder when the day comes that you all admit that I was right about Foley and his pseudoscientific teachings. As far as I remember according to many of you here Woods should already be better than he was with Harmon, and surely better than with Haney. ROFL.

Cheers

IMO, when you are used to getting off the ball as much as TW always has, and you start working on staying that still over it, your release has to change to accommodate it. And that's what he seems to be fighting more than anything. Under and holding on is a different animal than over and letting go.

"I know we've only known each other four weeks and three days, but to me it seems like nine weeks and five days. The first day seemed like a week and the second day seemed like five days. And the third day seemed like a week again and the fourth day seemed like eight days. And the fifth day you went to see your mother and that seemed just like a day, and then you came back and later on the sixth day, in the evening, when we saw each other, that started seeming like two days, so in the evening it seemed like two days spilling over into the next day and that started seeming like four days, so at the end of the sixth day on into the seventh day, it seemed like a total of five days. And the sixth day seemed like a week and a half. I have it written down, but I can show it to you tomorrow if you want to see it."

Tiger is too dependent on teachers. He says he's this way because he always had a teacher. He's too quick to change his swing. He had great success with both Harmon and Haney, but thought he needed to change again. Tiger is so good that he can win with just about any type of swing. However, IMO he loses so much time (chasing Jack's record) getting used to the new swings.

It's obvious that Tiger doesn't own his swing like a Bubba Watson (self taught) or Ricky Fowler (just one teacher). They both own their swings. Who knows how long it will take Tiger to own the Foley swing. Then he'll get bored with that and change once again. In his mind if you're not trying to get better then you're falling behind. IMO this mindset is flawed.

I'm not so sure he was 'dependent' on his early life teachers like John Anselmo. Bet that was more coralling a young talent and gently keeping him within orthodox limits. Not...guiding to a preferred pattern but letting the student develop his own style.

I agree with your points for the most part. Keep in mind though that Haney quit the job, and then Tiger chose to waste no time hiring Foley.

Tiger played very well today.

I just think that the base of he neck shouldn't move forward and his hips should bump a HAIR more to the right.

Totally just my opinion.

I would agree with this. I think the shoulders motion is much better now than in the past few years. Now if Foley could teach him how to get his mojo back.

??

Doesn't make sense....

I think he moves the base of his neck FORWARD now, I prefer NO movement. I also think his shoulder turn is a hair steep, and his hips are too rotary and need a slight right bump.

You agree with this?

I think he is getting very close to being to far left as you state, I would prefer actually a small move to the right, I was talking about the downswing shoulder movement, its less under and behind now, not really too concerned with the steepness of the backswing, its no where close to Palmer steep.

If you mean a rightward backswing bump I would agree, don't see anything wrong on the downswing hip movement from my untrained eye.

Ah....

But Nicklaus did change his swing at least this many times:

1. Nicklaus "The Kid" swing - Nicklaus shoot 17-under at Augusta in 1965

Really behind it and right leaning torso at the top, more lag, more arched left wrist, more forward lean at impact, famous hang back acid tilted finish.

2. The Lull....Won at Baltusrol, wore visors, putted with white Bulls-Eye - Decides to slim down.

Very still head, slight more upright, almost left lean at the top, less arch, less lean, less axis tilted finish.

3. 1971 Pebble 1-iron through the Golf My Way video era

Sets-up more behind it and stays there, the most upright he ever was, more sweep release, almost no forward lean, also much steeper shoulder turn at the end, and VSP.

4. The Full Swing era

More neutral set-up, flatter but NOT flat, flatter shoulder turn, flatter VSP.

5. Old Jack

Don't laugh, he could still play, and arguably, this started in the 196 Masters, where his swing in the last round, looked different enough than his JACK IS BACK 1980 US Open win.

Lets find some pics and video.....calling Lia!

When I saw your question in post #6 the first thing that came to mind was he's never been stacked in his
backswing. The swing below is from 2000 in Bangkok. At that time he had won three straight majors and
was headed to winning the slam at Augusta. I think this swing was one he really understood and owned
What do you think?

Tiger 2000 in Bangkok, Jack Sparrow called and wants his shirt back!
