When will Tigers patience run out?

I think a good case of amnesia and a good hooker(s) would take care of things first. Then give him an empty range with unlimited balls and let him go at it. His swing thought needs to be from the great movie "Win Win" which is:

"Do whatever the f*^k it takes!!!!"

When/if his patience runs out then what? IMO Tigers all in.
I hope he can get back to playing by feel but his recent comments suggest otherwise. I don't know if this move can ever sink in deeply enough.
I hope for golf he can find his confidence again.

Ah....

But Nicklaus did change his swing at least this many times:

1. Nicklaus "The Kid" swing - Nicklaus shoot 17-under at Augusta in 1965

Really behind it and right leaning torso at the top, more lag, more arched left wrist, more forward lean at impact, famous hang back acid tilted finish.

2. The Lull....Won at Baltusrol, wore visors, putted with white Bulls-Eye - Decides to slim down.

Very still head, slight more upright, almost left lean at the top, less arch, less lean, less axis tilted finish.

3. 1971 Pebble 1-iron through the Golf My Way video era

Sets-up more behind it and stays there, the most upright he ever was, more sweep release, almost no forward lean, also much steeper shoulder turn at the end, and VSP.

4. The Full Swing era

More neutral set-up, flatter but NOT flat, flatter shoulder turn, flatter VSP.

5. Old Jack

Don't laugh, he could still play, and arguably, this started in the 196 Masters, where his swing in the last round, looked different enough than his JACK IS BACK 1980 US Open win.

Lets find some pics and video.....calling Lia!

Do you think/know 2. and 3. were conscious/deliberate changes? Or just ageing and a gradual development of his swing?

I think he says in The Full Swing that his pattern or intent stayed basically the same from learning as a kid through to '79. But then Jack says a lot of things...

Not deliberate.

The earlier he released it the better he drove it. How he could put that old one-iron on the ball consistently was the most amazing thing... And long? I mean 300+ with persimmon and balata. Embarrassed the green jackets in 65 Masters! The best of the best...Great Chapter in "The Story of American Golf" by Herb Wind called "The Golden Hours of the Golden Bear." read it just for the pleasure of it.

This was all so obvious to see from the start of the Foley era. I said it wouldn't work.....from the beginning. But its not just because Foley is inexperienced and uneducated. Its mostly because Tiger's psyche has been irepairably damaged. He will not break Jack's record. Not now. He blew it.

Todd, that is a tough critique of Foley. He is the hottest teacher on tour right now. Mahan, Rose, Noh. I would say just being out there gives him a real world education that is hard to quantify.

What if this is the Tiger that's left? A guy who, like the other top 10-15 players, will get hot for a week or so at a time, but on balance will have more off weeks than on. More top 25s than top 5s.

Considering he's made a decision to sacrifice 6 years (and counting) of his prime undertaking pretty drastic changes, it seems more likely that longer bouts of mediocrity (relative to his accomplishments) is the next/current phase of his career.

Say the dominant reigning NFL franchise (with a brilliant owner) wins a couple Super Bowls with the pro style offense, executing with machine like precision and efficiency. Then suddenly over the off season, the owner decides to fire the coach in favor of a new coach that specializes in the run-n-shoot offense. The personnel stays the same, and amazingly they eventually adapt and start winning Super Bowls again. Now the brilliant owner is thought to be really brilliant. Hold up, he's got another idea... he figures he can win with the option offense. New coach again. Same players again. But so far, not so good. Not a person with any concept of football would be surprised if they don't return to their winning ways. Besides the brilliant owner, who would expect the same personnel to be winning fit for all those different styles?

A 5 year old could figure out that three practice swings left of left, then you try to draw the ball will result in some pull hooks and meet new people swings. Short game looks stiff an way less imaginative. He plays not to lose. Most of his fairways are from hitting stingers and 3 woods. New ball and technology and the best golfer ever imo can't find fairways with the big dog.

Name a guy without top talent that the Foley's or Harmon's or Haney's have developed into the winners circle. It's not Tiger or Phil or Rose or Mahan.
