Does having a strong grip such as Boo, David Duval or Azinger help to promote more shaft lean at impact? It seems to me that the players with stronger grips tend to have more lag.
I have been fighting a rolling right foot for awhile now. Today I experimented with turning on the backswing with a slight bend in the left arm until I reached the Top and at that point I extended the left arm to set the top of the backswing. It was much easier to control the right foot if I...
I've had a tendency to slide targetward on the downswing instead of rotating the hips around a firm left leg. Does anyone have a suggestion? When I set up with more weight on the left it is easier to straighten the left leg and rotate around it on the downswing. Would Stack and Tilt be a...
When I look at golf on TV and they measure club head speed the pros generate significant speed. If I am trying to increase my CHS how would I know when I have gone too far for ME?
I vieoed my swing this week and was disappointed to see that I was losing the angle of my left arm and shaft really early in the downswing. I have tried to cure this flaw in many ways with no success. When I swing shorter (about shoulder high) I have no trouble sustaining the angle. Is this a...
There seems to be some disagreement on an old concept of swinging "wide to narrow." Some instructors teach maximum width on the backswing and downswing, while others teach wide back and a smaller tighter circle coming down. What's the deal? Are they both right for some people?
I remember taking a lesson with Ben Doyle a few years ago when he explained to me that in the beginning of the backswing to the Top it was kinetic energy being used, and to start the downswing it was potential energy until a certain point when kinetic energy kicked in again. When does the player...
I videoed my swing today and was disappointed that my right foot was rolling to the right during the backswing. Any thoughts on how to keep the right foot from rolling during the backswing?
When I was hitting flip hooks I went to Twist Away and immediately stopped flipping. However I still hit hooks until I "Hit the Box" with the entire club. This feels as though I am using a no-roll technique. Can you use any hinge action or is Angled Hinging perferred?
I find it amazing that whenever I hit an errant shot a fellow player or even a golf teacher will often say "just slow it down and swing smoothly" (not you Brian). Nobody complains about how violently Tiger goes after a tee shot, or any other pro for that matter. Can anyone tell me how a player...
When would you teach a student to use rotated shoulder plane instead of turned shoulder plane. Would a RSP tend to shourten the arm swing if someone is taking it back too far behind his head at the end of the backswing?
With the Shoulder Turn Takeaway how much should the player turn before the right foot pushes off the ground to start the Gear Train moving from the ground up? Should the player turn maximally for full shots or just until the hands reach the desired Top of the swing position?
Sustain the Lag,
John
In TGM there is a difference in positions of the hands at End and Top. Is there ever an advantage to taking the backswing to End when the Straight Line Delivery starts at Top? It seems to me that taking the hands to End just promotes Club head throwaway and loss of Lag. Any thoughts?
